Most striking feature:
The rooms. Yesterday Lisa of the Exchange Hotel gave me a tour of the hotel and I’ve seen a lot of rooms. All of them are decorated differently by students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. It’s all about taste ofcourse, but my favorite room is the one by Sofie Sleumer. If you book that room (The Crinoline Cage) you sleep under, and in, someone’s skirt. Yes, the assignment for all of the students was to dress the room as if it was a model. Another room I liked was the one done by Iris Kloppenburg and was all about wires (Live Hand Drawing). INA MATT is a designer’s couple responsible for the graphic design of the hotel, café and store, but they also designed some of the room’s.
Prices start at 100 euro a night and go up to 380 euro a night. Just like in the Lloyd Hotel you have 1 star rooms and 5 star rooms. Reason? They don’t want to rule anyone out - and because of that you attract a bold group of people.
Underneath the hotel is a café called Stock. You can get your breakfast here or a tomato soup. But there’s also a huge juice machine where you can make your own freshly squeezed juice to take it with you into the center. On the walls you see drawings made by the people of the Lloyd hotel. Very funny.
Next to Stock is Options! an amazing interior/design store. But I will report about that one later!
