Most striking feature:
For me, sleeping in this Ace Hotel, is like heaven. It’s like you’re a teenage fan of, let’s say, Justin Bieber and you finally meet him. I’ve seen a lot of pictures of the Ace Hotels and now I’m finally there. The hotel is located nearby the Pearl District (and the whole block if full of restaurants and shops so that’s an easy extra) and you are welcomed by a doormat saying ‘this is Ace Hotel Portland, we’re glad you’re here, please watch your step’.
After that you’re inside their lobby. And even when the most ugly people on the world gather around this comfortable couch: they would still look cool. Amazing! Everything in this hotel is environment friendly (we’re in Portland). The paint on the walls, the vintage furniture etc. The table in the lobby used to be a garage door.
In the corner of the lobby is the check-in: the staff is so friendly that my idea of heaven is even coming more real per minute. They are dressed quite cool and comfortable as well. I get my key – not an plastic keycard, but an actual key. We’re on the 4th floor – and in the elevator we read: ‘taking the chairs is faster’, true.
The room was divided in two. One bedroom and one living room. The room is decorated with vintage items. Look at the simple box next to the bed (good idea for my own home). In the living room was a couch, but also a table with the minibar (with Stroopwafels in it) and a record player.
The shower had two showers. I have a crappy shower at home, so I love all the showers in the hotels I’m staying, but this was like I was in a carwash. Fantastic! Next to the shower there was a saying: ‘want a fresh towel? Leave it in the tub. No tub? Leave it in the shower. No shower? Leave it in the sink. No sink? Leave it on the floor. No floor? Leave’.
Love the Malin + Goetz shampoo and conditioner. The Ace Hotel was my home for four days and I enjoyed every second of it.
Other things I love: wall mural in the room of my friend – and photographer – Anne:
