Most striking feature:
The Japanese wooden cube you’re sleeping in. Isn’t that fantastic? The bed is extreme comfortable and you don’t want to get out if it anymore, but there’s so much more to discover in the room. From your own iPad to the Aesop bath amenities and from the fire place to the Bento box room service. Oh, and then there’s the rooftop called La Piscine (will write about that one in my next post). At the night we stayed there, Scarlett Johansson partied upstairs. Because Hôtel Americano has Mexican roots (check my visit to Hotel Basico in Playa del Carmen) the staff is speaking Spanish as well. My boyfriend is half Spanish so he did the talking for me – although you will be fine with English.
Before I take you with me through the hotel I want to say something about the area. The hotel is located in Chelsea where you will find a lot of galleries and a part of the High Line (the better part because not so touristy as the beginning at the Meatpacking district). You can rent bikes here as well: I was surprised to see Dutch VANMOOF bikes. Very lightweighted so easy to navigate on in New York.
The restaurant is an happening place during the day – and perfectly easy going when it’s time to have breakfast. Ofcourse you will find the DesignHotels book in the lobby (for inspiration for a new trip) and Aesop handwash in the toilets. It’s about the details isn’t?
When entering the hotel room (well, uh, the Uptown Studio) this is your view. Bathroom to the right, living room in front of you. Do you see the hanging fireplace?
The rest of the room with on the left the cube and in the front the Jasper Morrison cork stool.
Aesop goodies in the bathroom. Isn’t this alone a beautiful sight?
You’re not a true designhotel if you don’t have humor. So this is the stylishly packed condom in case you need one.
Beautiful typography in this notebook and pen. This picture also gives away the colors of the hotel: black, white and this mustard yellow detail. The chairs in the restaurant downstairs have the same color.
Breakfast in the morning. Love the concrete floors and the beautiful lamp.
Outside dining is possible – but not yet open this morning in May.
Outside sign of the hotel – stunning.
The lobby is the first thing you see when entering the hotel.
Last shot of the lobby. Tomorrow I will tell you about the rooftop restaurant and show you the beautiful view.
