FAVORITES: PARIS

The question I’m asked most often is: ‘what are your absolute favorites?’ That’s a tough question because everything on my site is a favorite, otherwise I won’t write about it. But if I have to narrow them down to a shortlist of the best addresses, so you can print it out and take it with you, you have found the right page. Here you go: my favorites, all Tried & Tested, in Paris! Enjoy!

SLEEP

Mamashelter 
Area: 20th Arrondissement, 109 Rue de Bagnolet, 01 43 48 48 48, www.mamashelter.com 
Welcomes: everyone. From babies to their grand parents and from hipsters to businessmen.
Loves: their Sunday brunch. Tout Paris is coming together to dine for hours.
PP-tip: Because of the location of the hotel it’s a good idea to rent a bike (Velib point in front of the hotel), so you can easily transport yourself to other area’s.

Le Citizen Hotel 
Area: Canal Saint Martin, 96 Quai de Jemmapes, 01 83 62 55 50, www.lecitizenhotel.com
Welcomes: travellers who love to escape to an intimate and small hotel in a lively neighbourhood.
Loves: to rent out iPad’s to their guests.
PP-tip: don’t forget to spend some time in their cafe, Petit Usagi. To drink green tea and read a good selection of magazines.

Le Studio 22
Area: Le Marais, Rue de Franche Comte, 06 60 13 98 20, www.lestudio22.typepad.fr
Welcomes: A couple or two sisters in this small, yet cozy, studio.
Loves: to hang your typical French breakfast in a tote bag on the door, and to provide Aesop amenities in the bathroom.
PP-tip: Book this when you want to feel what it’s like to live in Paris.

EAT

Ma Cocotte

Welcomes: flea market visitors
Loves: to call you Ma Cocotte, Mon Lapin, Mon Chou or any other sweet nickname.
PP-tip: don’t forget to go upstairs to order a cocktail.

Cafe Craft

Canal Saint Martin, 24 Rue des Vinaigriers, 01 40 35 90 77, www.cafe-craft.com
Welcomes: workaholics. They have chargers and wifi throughout the cafe.
Loves: to serve you a good cup of coffee while you’re working on a deadline.
PP-tip: also a good place to charge the battery of your phone – and to buy a fantastic black tote bag.

Ten Belles 
Area:

Welcomes:
an international crowd of coffee connaisseurs.
Loves:
 to chat with their visitors. It really feels like a neighbourhood hang-out.
PP-tip: check their fabulous stools (they said they gonna sell them soon).

Telescope

Welcomes: an international crowd of coffee connaisseurs.
Loves: to serve you thick sliced banana bread. Delicious!
PP-tip: Don’t forget to wash your hands (they have that fabulous Aesop handwash with scrub in the toilets).

Cafe Madam
Area:

Welcomes: you for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Kids are welcome.
Loves: to tell you about their beautiful coffee machine.
PP-tip: not a coffee drinker? Try their jasmine tea.

La Maison Mere 
Area: Pigalle, 4 Rue de Navarin, 01 42 81 11 00, www.lamaisonmere.fr
Welcomes: everyone who understands their motto ‘in food we trust’.
Loves: to serve you breakfast or brunch. But, later on, the burgers are to die for.
PP-tip: although it’s next to Hotel Amour, where every self respected hipster goes to, I would choose for the more relaxing vibe at La Maison Mere. Or combine the two.

Coutume Cafe 
Area: 7th Arrondissement, 47 Rue de Babylone, 01 45 51 50 47, www.coutumecafe.com
Welcomes: locals who love coffee.
Loves: to serve good roasted coffee, but they are my hero in making breakfast.
PP-tip: order that breakfast and don’t forget to taste their delicious orange juice.

Grazie

Welcomes: you in hipster outfit: cool hat, white shirt, black skinny trousers and suspenders to keep that trouser at it’s place.
Loves: to serve you pizza at night.
PP-tip: order a glass of wine, together with a box filled with bruschetta, after a day of shopping in le Marais.

SHOP 

French Trotters
Area: Le Marais, 128 Rue Vieille du Temple, 01 44 61 00 14, www.frenchtrotters.fr
Welcomes: you in their new flagship store in Le Marais.
Loves: to collect a fabulous collection of ‘got to haves’. From Veja sneakers to the latest copy of Monocle.
PP-tip: save some money and buy your Jerome Dreyfuss bag in here – that’s what I’m gonna do when I saved enough. Billy here I come!

Aesop
Area: Le Marais,  64 Rue Vieille du Temple, 01 42 71 02 69, www.aesop.com (there’s a new one on Rue Tiquetonne 29)
Welcomes: beauty addicts who love to try out the latest Aesop products near the big sink in the middle of the store.
Loves: everyone to use Aesop. That’s why they have  constructed three bottles of handcream and handwash on the building, so people passing by can also use it.
PP-tip:  buy the Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash and your hands will smell so good!

Colonel

Welcomes:
 everyone who wants to spice up their interior.
Loves: to collect Scandinavian design.
PP-tip: don’t forget to check out their own collection. Beautiful!

Centre Commerial
Area: Canal Saint Martin, 2 Rue de Marseille,  01 42 02 26 08, www.centrecommercial.cc
Welcomes: Both men and women. Going on a shopping trip together saves a lot of time. Clever.
Loves: to also sell magazines and books.
PP-tip: addicted to shoes? Then the corner in the back of the shop is very dangerous.

Merci
Area: Le Marais, 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais, 01 42 77 00 33, www.merci-merci.com 
Welcomes: the world who wants to experience one of the best concept stores in the world.
Loves: to work together with fantastic brands like Liberty or Aesop.
PP-tip: try to get a table at the in-house cafe, oh and buy some stationary items. If your day rhythm consist of sitting at a desk staring at your computer screen (like I am right now) the notebooks will brighten up your day.

OFR.
Area: Le Marais Nord, 20 Rue Dupetit-Thouars, 01 42 45 72 88, www.ofrsystem.com
Welcomes: book addicts.
Loves: to collect the most beautiful coffee table books. And a fantastic collection of magazines.
PP-try: visit this store at the end of your day otherwise you carry yourself a hernia with all those heavy weight books.
