TRIED & TESTED: DUTCH DESIGN WEEK EINDHOVEN

October 22nd, 2012

My Dutch Design Tour

11am last Saturday morning. I was so excited to see the Colour One MINI by Scholten & Baijings at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. I saw the pictures of the space in Milan and unfortunately I couldn’t go there, but now I’ve seen it here in Eindhoven. You know I am a big fan of the brand and what they’ve done with the MINI is amazing. The car is still the same; but all the extra’s got a fantastic design flavor. Like the driver’s seat or the steering wheel (see pictures). Even the wheels got an upgrade. And I really liked the neon grill. Love to drive this MINI someday (if it even goes in production)! (Klokgebouw 50)

For all of you who love fashion I’ve spotted three pop up concepts worth going to. Lovely Dutch is an online webshop I haven’t heard of until this Saturday. They sell New Balance sneakers and beautiful leather bags. The presentation in the containers really caught my eye. Studio RUIG was still building it’s shop; but sells amazing jewelry and fashion. And I finally saw the collection of by Sanne Jansen. Every month she adds a new garment to her collection. And the jacket of October is to die for! In here she shows all of the clothes (Torenallee 60)

At the somewhat chaotic Yksi store I’ve spotted the fantastic knitted jewelry texts of Ladieda (Torenallee 22).

For lunch go to Radio Royaal (no pictures in this review, but I’ve been there a couple of months ago and love to show you around if you here) (Ketelhuisplein 10).

You should definitely go to the Schellensfabriek where concept store Coming Soon from Arnhem takes it residence during the festival. I fell in love with Project Chair Wear. Fashion for your chair. See the blue pillow for your chair (Bleekweg).

The exhibition De Etende Mens is a recommendation for all of you who love design & food.

Then head to the Paradijslaan where you will find Eat Drink Design – a pop up. You will find work of Kiki & Joost there along with beautiful chairs and tables made by Daphna Laurens. Don’t forget to enter a dark corner (in the left end of the area) where you will see where I took the openings photo of this article. The lamp on the wall is from Ontwerpduo. There’s also a cafe. (Paradijslaan 8).

A few other recommendations in Eindhoven: Piet Hein Eek, You Are Here, Dutch Design Year, Magda Eindhoven and Usine.

Have fun! x Pauline
