Update July 2015
The interior of Toto, done by Lázaro Rosa Violán, is beautiful. The designer is well-known in Barcelona (Big Fish, Chez Coco, The Prakik Hotel: all designed by him). His style isn’t minimalistic. No it’s about a warm, welcoming bombastic explosion of colors, lamps and patterns on the floor. That’s also the case at the newly opened Toto in l’Eixample. The owners decided to open a restaurant where you’re welcome for drinks, lunch and dinner. On the menu you’ll find a lot of Italian dishes such as pizzetas, pasta and risotto. I’ve recently tried their Tasting Menu, every season they have a new one, and it was superb with a capital S. Every single dish was so good. My favorite was the first dish from the six course menu and it was a gazpacho made with cherries. After that we got a delicious tartar de solomillo and the ceviche de Lubina. And we ended with a dessert. I was already crazy about the apple pie, but now I’ve tried their lemon cake and I would have ordered another one if I still had room. So good! Toto is not only one of my favorite addresses, but it’s also in the little black book of Ferran Adria who came here and tried out the Italian inspired slow food. And I receive a lot of happy e-mails from readers of Petite Passport who thank me for this recommendation because it was the highlight of their trip. Foody heaven so to say. But don’t forget the drinks. By entering the restaurant you will cross a bar with tons of drinks to choose for. Order some finger food with it and you’re ready for a night in Barcelona. Have fun!
