RUYI MELBOURNE

Most striking feature:

The most beautiful Chinese restaurant I have ever seen. Around the corner from the Ovolo Hotel and just outside Chinatown you’ll find Ruyi, a new restaurant with a stunning interior. It means ‘as you wish’ (see the Chinese characters with that meaning on the ground at the entrance). The restaurant is owned by Qian Qian and Sheng Fan, two Australians with their roots in China. The kitchen is Chinese, but with a contemporary twist. Think seafood spring rolls, Peking duck cone and a wasabi steak. For the interior typical Chinese colors (red and green) were used, but less bright and in beautiful earthy tones. Also very nice is the pottery tableware. The owner told me that there were even people who wanted to buy the cups and plates for their home and I can understand that very well. It’s gorgeous!

We dined there last week and had the best dinner, best dumplings and the very best service – friends have visited since and agree – an absolute must visit!
