DE BAKKERSWINKEL KRALINGEN ROTTERDAM

Update August 31, 2015:

NEW! From this week on De Bakkerswinkel isn’t only open during the day but also at night for dinner. I was invited to try the full menu last week and loved it all. There was a delicious salad with shrimps, a vegetarian sausage roll (saucijzenbroodje) asparagus and a steak, but my favorite was the sea bass.

On one of the corners of Oostplein the newest Bakkerswinkel recently opened its doors. There was already a Bakkerswinkel in Rotterdam, on the Schiedamse Vest, but this is by far my favorite and by that also worth sharing. It’s located in a spacious and light building where you can still see the industrial details, but where designer Piet Hein Eek managed to create that homely atmosphere the Bakkerswinkels are known for. Concrete on the floor and wall, but finished with chairs and sofas from Piet Hein Eek and some from the flea market. There are actually two parts: a cafe as you enter and a larger restaurant area you’ll access via a sort of secret door. Of course you can order their delicious food. I’ve ordered a healthy yogurt with fruit and granola and an orange juice. But they also have the best pies and scones (also for take-away). A good place for high tea or a cozy breakfast or lunch meeting.
