MY WEEKEND IN FRIESLAND

Last weekend I went to Friesland to stay at the wonderful Atelier Gaasterland. Of course, I wanted to see more of this untouched area of The Netherlands and love to show you the highlights!

European Capital of Culture 2018

Leeuwarden is European Capital of Culture this year which means there are a lot of festivities going on. There’s an exhibition called Phantom Limb in the Fries Museum which was sold out, unfortunately, but I think it’s pretty nice to see and experience. My advice is to book tickets in advance. Go shopping at Nord (Scandinavian design) or Hardwerk Fogeltje (vintage) and have lunch or dinner at Proefverlof in a former prison. Where you will also find the ceramics workshop of Lies Keramiek.

Interior shopping

If you love to do some interior shopping I would recommend you to go to Van Buren Bolsward for beautiful sheepskins. And you can’t miss the lovely shop at ‘t Flinke Boskje for ceramics and all kinds of vintage finds. Also, check out the Airbnb Studio Ina + Matt rent out where you can stay with 6 persons and a baby.

Food

For lunch, dinner and the best apple pie of Friesland (according to Rik of Atelier Gaasterland and me) go to Omke Jan in Woudsend. A farm turned into a restaurant and hotel designed by Piet Hein Eek.
