TRIED & TESTED: DUTCH DESIGN WEEK EINDHOVEN

October 22nd, 2012

My Dutch Design Tour

11am last Saturday morning. I was so excited to see the Colour One MINI by Scholten & Baijings at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. I saw the pictures of the space in Milan and unfortunately I couldn’t go there, but now I’ve seen it here in Eindhoven. You know I am a big fan of the brand and what they’ve done with the MINI is amazing. The car is still the same; but all the extra’s got a fantastic design flavor. Like the driver’s seat or the steering wheel (see pictures). Even the Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: RADIO ROYAAL EINDHOVEN

August 13th, 2012

Most striking feature:

You have to like a bit of industrial rawness, but then you will love Radio Royaal in Eindhoven. Strijp-s is a former industrial zone in Eindhoven and this place was a former machine building. So you get that there’s a lot of space upstairs – and you eat directly next to the machines. The interior is Read more…

December 5th, 2011

Thanks for visiting this spot. When I made this pictures the restaurant wasn’t even open yet. It is now, so I would love to forward you to the proper Tried & Tested of Radio Royaal here. Enjoy!

You all know I love scoops. Spots so new they aren’t open yet. Last weekend I went to Hotel de Goudfazant in Amsterdam and discovered that they are gonna open a new Hotel de Goudfazant in Eindhoven. And that’s gonna be called Radio Royaal, the Machinekamer on Strijp-S. It’s gonna open in

TRIED & TESTED: DUTCH DESIGN YEAR

November 1st, 2011

Most striking feature:

During the Dutch Design Week the Dutch Design Year store opened it’s doors. It’s located in the Smalle Haven, where you can find a café and Doortje Originals. You can expect work of young design talents next to brands like Montis and Hay. The counter made of wood is amazing, really beautiful. I’ve also spotted bird houses, a lovely, but funny, gift for your loved one (see pic) and beautiful concrete lamps.

TRIED & TESTED: DUTCH DESIGN WEEK

October 30th, 2011

Yesterday I got the chance to visit Eindhoven for the Dutch Design Week. If you’re from abroad, you probably think: Eindhoven? Never heard of. Wel it’s where the Design Academy is located and a lot of international designers graduate. Every year, at the end of October, they host this week full of design. You will find new restaurants (although temporarily), new design and new stores. I took some pictures of things that got my heart pounding a little bit faster.

Food Lab – experiments with food

TRIED & TESTED: YOU ARE HERE EINDHOVEN

June 14th, 2011

Most striking feature:

The fitting rooms in the back of the shop. You will immediately walk towards them because they are designed very colorful. You Are Here is a concept store where you can find special labels (not too expensive) in fashion, design and art. And designers from the Design Academy get the opportunity to Read more…

  2. If you like to be surprised by new designers (every 4 monhts).
  3. If you like brands like Opening Ceremony, RopaRosa and Studio Ruig.

TRIED & TESTED: PIET HEIN EEK EINDHOVEN

January 17th, 2011

Most striking feature:

When you enter the Piet Hein Eek zone, you first notice his massive workplace. The place where every single bench, table or chair is produced. Cool to see all the wooden parts lying around – knowing that those parts will soon turn into a great piece of furniture. There is a store (which wasn’t open at sunday) and a restaurant. With of course some Piet Hein Eek furniture, but also some vintage pieces. I loved the wooden plate where they served our sandwich on. I loved the Aesop handsoap in the toilets (it’s about the details isn’t?) and I loved the huge bar in the middle of the restaurant made of tubes.

TRIED & TESTED: MAGDA EINDHOVEN

September 16th, 2010

Most striking feature:

Magda Eindhoven is my favorite store in the Netherlands. Why? Because they have a beautiful collection of brands like Sessun, Ganni, Happy Socks and Susan Bijl. But it’s their lovely advice which makes you return. If you try a vest for example Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: USINE EINDHOVEN

September 12th, 2010

Most striking feature:

A Grand Café done differently. If only Dudok would be using those colorful chairs and simple light bulbs… Usine is open from breakfast to a late night drink. You will see supporters of their local football club PSV among children and students of the Design Academy. The menu consists dishes like tomato soup, club sandwich and satey. I’ve ordered a bagel with salmon and cream cheese. The location is also superb – nearby the main shopping street but also nearby the Bergstraat where you’ll find my favorite shop ever, Magda.
