TRIED & TESTED: CASAS NA AREIA COMPORTA

June 22nd, 2013

casasnaareiacomporta

Most striking feature:

Casas na Areia is the ultimate family vacation home – and it did win a lot of architectural prices. Let’s start at the beginning. The owners of Casas na Areia (houses in the sand) weren’t working in tourism but when they visited an exhibition at the Tate in London together with a friend who happens to be an architect they got the idea for a family home in Comporta. An area close to Lisbon and an area which wasn’t (and still isn’t) touched by mass tourism. Casas na Areia was actually meant for them to use, but they weren’t there all the time so why not Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: VILLA EXTRAMUROS ARRAIOLOS

June 22nd, 2013

villaextramurosarraiolos6

Most striking feature:

Villa Extramuros is a place you never want to leave. Period. The architecture is stunning (done by Jordi Fornells and Rolf Heinemann of Vora Arquitectura), the interior is very inspiring and the owners are really kind. Let me tell you about my experience. Villa Extramuros is reachable by car in about an hour from Lisbon. Via a small road you end up in the middle of nature where rabbits cross the road quickly while you drive your car to the parking. The white house is stunning and is build on a way that the light follows the architecture and that’s why the house changes every minute of the day. Sometimes you can sit in the sun, but you’ll always have a shade. And that’s a luxury because it can be quite hot in this region. The owners are from Paris, gave up everything in that busy city and Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: BAIXA HOUSE LISBON

June 20th, 2013

baixahouselisbon

Most striking feature:

Baixa House felt like home immediately. I started making a map of my own apartment to try to see what I can do in my home to get the same atmosphere. Talking about an inspiring place, right? Sometimes a place doesn’t feel like a hotel, but as your own apartment you never want to leave again. Baixa House gave me the same feeling. Maria, the concept designer, told me that every apartment (12 of them) started with a carpet from the Alentejo region. Out of the color combination of that carpet they started decorating the apartments. If there were red accents in the carpets there was also a red pillow for example. The apartments have Read more…
