Miss’Opo is a beautiful cafe, shop and guesthouse in Porto. The doors open around 4pm when people are ready for some small dishes like a cheese platter and a glass of wine. You see them preparing it in the kitchen. The bread was really fresh, the wine tasted very good (maybe because I was running the whole day from one spot to another) and the atmosphere was creative. At first, by seeing the press images, I was like: yes, I want to sleep in a cube like this. When I entered the place there was another striking feature: you’re right on the beach. You forget the cube for a moment and walk straight to the window to gaze out over the ocean. Miguel, one of the owners of Flattered, a complete apartment complex on the beach side, welcomed me with a glass of port and told me all about the project. The suite on the top floor. You will sleep under the wooden roof, under a beautiful plaid and with a view of an authentic bath. Rosa et Al opened the doors in August last year and is one of Porto’s small and intimate guesthouses. Just like Casa do Conto it’s a bit hard to find. You see a bright and shiny white door with ‘Rosa et Al’ on it and when you enter you’re directly in the lobby. A great place with books and olive oil and wine they produce themselves. You have to love a bit of concrete while staying here. The concrete staircase for example is beautiful. Casa do Conto opened it’s doors two years ago but not without any drama. They almost finished the complete hotel and 10 days before the official opening there was a fire ruining it completely. Only the remains of the staircase were visible, so the owner and architect, rebuild it completely and used a lot of concrete throughout the whole hotel. In the suites you will find Read more…
