FAVORITES: CAPE TOWN

March 29th, 2013

ppfavoritescapetownThe question I’m asked most often is: ‘what are your absolute favorites?’ That’s a tough question because everything on my site is a favorite, because otherwise I won’t write about it. But if I have to narrow them down to a shortlist of the best addresses, so you can print it out and take it with you, you have found the right page. Here you go: my favorites, all Tried & Tested, in Cape Town! Enjoy! Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: ARTS ON MAIN JOHANNESBURG

March 20th, 2013

artsonmainjohannesburg

Most striking feature:

Having lunch underneath the olive trees. The Maboneng Precinct is an area full of old warehouses turned into restaurants, hotels and even a museum (see this picture on Instagram, the museum is gonna open in a few months). It still has a rough edge to it. That’s also the charm of Jo’burg: it’s not a brochure like city. You really have to dig into it to find the pearls. Like Arts on Main on a Sunday afternoon. There a food and fashion market Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: LOADING BAY CAPE TOWN

March 16th, 2013

loadingbaycapetown

Most striking feature:

Talking about a great atmosphere. Loading Bay is a shop and cafe under one roof. You’re welcomed by a lovely waitress with a smile and after that you see the sign ‘Today is gonna be a good day’. Can a visit to a cafe start better? Well if you see a beautiful pair of Acne trousers in the shop, it can. Or if you order a chicken salad that turns out Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: THE LOBBY CAPE TOWN

March 15th, 2013

thelobbycapetown1

Most striking feature:

Again in the Woodstock Foundry, this stylish hair dresser opened it’s doors last year. At first I thought it was a barber and that they only shave and cut men. But they also cut, color and style women. Good to know! The interior is beautiful. I like the wall made out of typical things a hairdresser can’t live without: like scissors, pins and a blowdryer. If you Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: FIELD OFFICE CAPE TOWN

March 15th, 2013

fieldofficecapetown

Most striking feature:

There are two Field Offices in Cape Town, one in the center and one in Woodstock. In the Woodstock Exchange. A perfect place to have lunch, hang out with friends or work in an inspiring environment. The Woodstock Exchange is an old warehouse turned into a place where young entrepreneurs can do their thing. From a coffee roastery to a vintage store and from a pop up store to the super cool Superette: you will enjoy yourself here for a couple of hours. Field Office isn’t only a place to work and order delicious pies, they also sell furniture by the owners of Field Office. Pedersen + Lennard make Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: OPUS CAPE TOWN

March 14th, 2013

opuscapetown

Most striking feature:

This is what a florist should look like I think. In the Woodstock Foundry you will find a lot of creativity: I already told you about the beautiful shop of Selah, but this new florist is something you can’t miss either. The hanging gardens strike you immediately. How is that possible? And how do you water it? (answers to those questions you can find on their website). If you’re on Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: TRUTH COFFEE CAPE TOWN

March 14th, 2013

truthcoffeecapetown

Most striking feature:

Truth Coffee is a well-known name in Cape Town. The coffee is sold everywhere and there are two Truth Coffee cafes in town. The newest one is located on Buitenkant Street, close to the touristy District Six. The interior is jaw dropping. Raw, industrial and full of interesting small details. Like tables reserved Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: BABYLONSTOREN PAARL

March 13th, 2013

babylonstorenpaarl

Most striking feature:

Their greenhouse. I couldn’t stop taking pictures. From some spots you know that they are good. They top the list of places you wish to visit and you have certain expectations. But then, if you’re actually there, it’s even better than you thought. What a space! And every m2 of the immense surface (200 hectares) is used optimally in terms of beauty. The tour starts in one of their suites. Authentic roll top bath, a four-poster bed, a nice living with a fire place, a stunning design kitchen and an extra room. After a lunch at Babel you will definitely want to stay here for a nice little siesta. Babel is the restaurant of Babylonstoren. We got a tour through the immense garden by a real garden woman. Full of passion she told us Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: SUPERETTE CAPE TOWN

March 13th, 2013

superettecapetown

Most striking feature:

Let the sunshine in! Superette is a discovery you want to share as quickly as possible and by entering gives you immediately a good feeling. The space is very cool with all those yellow and white accents and the sun shines through it beautifully. Superette is actually always full: people are doing their mail on their laptops or are chatting on a long table with friends. I went there to have breakfast. And normally I don’t take photos of food, but this plate (french toast filled with Nutella and a banana on top) was so nicely decorated that I had to put a photo of it on Instagram. And then Read more…
