BEST OF MARCH 2013

April 1st, 2013

bestofapril2013

Bye, bye March, hello April. How was your month in terms of travelling and seeing the latest spots around the world? Or even close by? In your own city? I was so lucky to start the month in Cape Town and Johannesburg to discover the best places for you to go. At home I had a lot of work waiting for me, but that didn’t stop me from updating my own city (Rotterdam) and visiting the new concept store Groos. And I went to Antwerp to see de Invasie and discovered Viktor: a beautiful place to get your coffee (or hot chocolate milk) and shop. Another thing to celebrate is the fact that my blog turned 3 years last week and I’m still not thinking of stopping at all. There’s so much more to discover to get you, and myself, in the mood for travelling the design way. Have a good month!

FAVORITES: CAPE TOWN

March 29th, 2013

ppfavoritescapetownThe question I’m asked most often is: ‘what are your absolute favorites?’ That’s a tough question because everything on my site is a favorite, because otherwise I won’t write about it. But if I have to narrow them down to a shortlist of the best addresses, so you can print it out and take it with you, you have found the right page. Here you go: my favorites, all Tried & Tested, in Cape Town! Enjoy! Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: LOADING BAY CAPE TOWN

March 16th, 2013

loadingbaycapetown

Most striking feature:

Talking about a great atmosphere. Loading Bay is a shop and cafe under one roof. You’re welcomed by a lovely waitress with a smile and after that you see the sign ‘Today is gonna be a good day’. Can a visit to a cafe start better? Well if you see a beautiful pair of Acne trousers in the shop, it can. Or if you order a chicken salad that turns out Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: THE LOBBY CAPE TOWN

March 15th, 2013

Most striking feature:

Again in the Woodstock Foundry, this stylish hair dresser opened it’s doors last year. At first I thought it was a barber and that they only shave and cut men. But they also cut, color and style women. Good to know! The interior is beautiful. I like the wall made out of typical things a hairdresser can’t live without: like scissors, pins and a blowdryer. If you Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: OPUS CAPE TOWN

March 14th, 2013

Most striking feature:

This is what a florist should look like I think. In the Woodstock Foundry you will find a lot of creativity: I already told you about the beautiful shop of Selah, but this new florist is something you can’t miss either. The hanging gardens strike you immediately. How is that possible? And how do you water it? (answers to those questions you can find on their website). If you’re on Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: BABYLONSTOREN PAARL

March 13th, 2013

babylonstorenpaarl

Most striking feature:

Their greenhouse. I couldn’t stop taking pictures. From some spots you know that they are good. They top the list of places you wish to visit and you have certain expectations. But then, if you’re actually there, it’s even better than you thought. What a space! And every m2 of the immense surface (200 hectares) is used optimally in terms of beauty. The tour starts in one of their suites. Authentic roll top bath, a four-poster bed, a nice living with a fire place, a stunning design kitchen and an extra room. After a lunch at Babel you will definitely want to stay here for a nice little siesta. Babel is the restaurant of Babylonstoren. We got a tour through the immense garden by a real garden woman. Full of passion she told us Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: SUPERETTE CAPE TOWN

March 13th, 2013

Most striking feature:

Let the sunshine in! Superette is a discovery you want to share as quickly as possible and by entering gives you immediately a good feeling. The space is very cool with all those yellow and white accents and the sun shines through it beautifully. Superette is actually always full: people are doing their mail on their laptops or are chatting on a long table with friends. I went there to have breakfast. And normally I don’t take photos of food, but this plate (french toast filled with Nutella and a banana on top) was so nicely decorated that I had to put a photo of it on Instagram. And then Read more…

CAPE TOWN WEEK ON PETITE PASSPORT

March 11th, 2013

capetownweek

For all of you who followed me on Instagram and Facebook the past weeks know: I completely fell in love with South Africa. I couldn’t stop posting pictures of all those beautiful hotspots. I was surprised by the amount of great shops and restaurants like Loading Bay and Superette. Once arrived at Babylonstoren my romantic side came up: here I just have to get married one day. Declaring your love on a long, wooden table  in a greenhouse with your friends and family seems like the ultimate hotspot moment. This week I’m gonna share all my Cape Town discoveries. To inspire you to go to South Africa. Because if Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: DESIGN INDABA EXPO CAPE TOWN

March 1st, 2013

designindabacapetown

Most striking feature:

Today was the first day of the Design Indaba Expo. The place to find design made in South Africa. I didn’t know what to expect. Colors I presume? But it was so much more. Lidewij Edelkoort, the famous Dutch trendwatcher, is promoting design from Africa via Totemism: a revival of the Memphis design movement. Just like in the 80′s, South Africa is now choosing for bright colors and inspiring designers from all over the world. In the Totemism booth at Design Indaba I could see what’s it all about. Color, humor and beautiful prints. But there was more. I was Read more…

I’M GOING TO SOUTH AFRICA, ANY TIPS?

February 21st, 2013

southafrica

South Africa, especially Cape Town, was already on my wish list for years. And now I’m actually going! Tomorrow at this time I will probably watching a movie during the 11-hour flight to Cape Town with KLM. I’m invited by South African Tourism to review Design Indaba – the Design Week of Cape Town, and ofcourse will come back with addresses, reviews and other interesting things I’ve spotted during my stay. After Cape Town I’m also visiting Johannesburg to Read more…
