TRIED & TESTED: MEGANE CAFE TAIPEI

July 18th, 2012

How grateful I am with the Petite Passport Facebook Page? Very much. Because otherwise I didn’t meet Ruby from Taiwan. A blogger who wrote about Petite Passport for her website Ruru’s Laboratory. She checked out one of the fabulous cafes Taiwan has to offer and handed in a perfect report to make all my readers want to travel to Taipei asap.

Most striking feature:

“Megane Cafe is situated in a small alley inside a busy district in Taipei, so I supposed lots of local people see it as an urban retreat. The cafe has a small charming part, imagine a balcony on the ground floor, semi-separated from the main part by glass window. Suitable for people who would like a cup of coffee and not fully locked indoor Read more…

NEW SPOT: FUSION HOTEL PRAGUE

April 12th, 2012

My lovely friend Laura Guimond from Portland went to Prague last month and visited this brand new hotel in Prague – and what’s even better? She took some pictures so we can see what it looks like from inside! Thanks Laura.

3 reasons to go there:

  1. Young artists promoting their artwork in the rooms.
  2. There’s a revolving bar – the only one in Europe so Read more…

Most striking feature:

TRIED & TESTED: JEDA VILLA BALI

November 28th, 2011

New contributor Selina Thurer lives in Singapore and travels a lot to other Asian destinations. Lately she went to Bali and stayed at this beautiful villa:

Most striking feature:

“The Jeda Villa is a peaceful paradise featuring everything you need for a relaxed retreat.  Its large thatched roof covers three bedrooms and a giant veranda with plenty of space to spread out.  But you will likely spend most of your time lounging by the private infinity pool, especially at nightfall when millions of stars sparkle above you.  The expertly blended mix of Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: MAGASAND MADRID

November 25th, 2011

Contributor, and Mr Petite Passport, Rik went to Madrid last Wednesday and came back with a Tried & Tested of this unbelievable fantastic spot:

Most striking feature:

“This spot is called Magasand because it mainly is about two things: magazines and sandwiches. And not the typical magazines like ELLE and Telva, but the more special ones. Ofcourse the Wallpaper* and Monocle but I’ve spotted a new Spanish Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: THE JUNCTION BALI

November 17th, 2011

Maartje Bodt is stylist for several Dutch magazines and went to Bali last week for work. She discovered the Junction in Seminyak:

Most striking feature:

“Ofcourse the building itself. It’s made out of wooden panels. But inside it’s fantastic as well. Every wall is made out of glass jars and they are organised on color. So one wall is brown with cinnamon, another pink with feathers. Great spot to drink something or have lunch.”

TRIED & TESTED: POTATO HEAD BEACH CLUB BALI

November 17th, 2011

New contributor Maartje Bodt is stylist in the Netherlands for publications like Jan and Mama Magazine. Last week she went to Bali for work and she visited the Potato Head Beach Club and likes to tell about it to Petite Passport:

Most striking feature:

The entrance. It’s shaped like the Olympic Stadium and it’s made out of shutters from Java. It looks amazing. It’s located in the same area of Kudeta, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go to Kudeta anymore. It’s way too touristy (bit like the Blue Marlin in Ibiza, once it’s hip, it attracts a certain clientele). At Potato Head you also pay for a day bed – you have to spend at least 50 euro. So some people occupy them with three people. I rented one as well and ordered a whole lot of juices ;) But you can also order a good caesar salad or burgers (a very popular dish in here). The staff is dressed mega cool. Scotch & Soda style with blocked blouses, suspenders and a hat. And ofcourse, but that’s everywhere in Bali, they provide an excellent service. There’s also an infinity pool with a bar in it. If you order a cocktail over there, it’s served in a Potato Head. Very funny. Oh, and another thing: the business cards are fabulous.”

November 16th, 2011

New contributor Barbara Duque works for LINDA. and is a big fan of Petite Passport. Recently she visited the Soul Suites in Antwerp, but last weekend she tried Loft51 in Maastricht. A recommendation by other contributor Albertine van den Brink:

Most striking feature:

“Their welcoming e-mail before you set off to Maastricht. If you find this (see underneath) a couple of days before you go in your mailbox the anticipation starts already, don’t you think?

Loft51 is located in the center of Maastricht – it’s a five minute walk to de Markt. Across the street you’ll find Marres, center for contemporary culture. They also did a project for the Biennale of Venice.”

TRIED & TESTED: CUIVRE SHANGHAI

November 4th, 2011

Contributor Rik recently went to Shanghai. Ofcourse to eat a bite at his favorite rooftop restaurant, but also to test a new spot for Petite Passport:

Most striking feature:

“I went here for brunch and when I walked inside I immediately knew: this is a good place. Why? Because of the interior design. Look at the bikes on the bar for example. Sleek, but with funny details. But it’s not all about the design, the service was superb as well. Fanny Cervera and her team immediately gave me Read more…
