TRIED & TESTED: STAY COPENHAGEN

April 16th, 2013

staycopenhagen

Most striking feature:

The spacious apartment on the 6th floor where I stayed during my trip to Copenhagen is fully decorated with items of Danish design company Hay. That pillow? Hay. Those cups you drink your morning tea in? Hay. And the chairs you sit on while checking your mail (free wifi)? Hay. The hotels I describe on my website aren’t only places to sleep, but also to get inspired. So yes, now I want to have the Hay day calendar (hanging in their lobby) at home as well (happily the Hay store is in the center of town). Stay Copenhagen is a hotel where you can also Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: HOTEL V NESPLEIN AMSTERDAM

April 2nd, 2013

hotelvnespleinamsterdam

Most striking feature:

You probably know that there’s already one Hotel V in Amsterdam already (and maybe thought that there were two of them. Very good, but the first one is now closed). The establishment on Frederiksplein is a huge success. The owner once told me that some people felt so relaxed in their lobby that they fell asleep on that wonderful couch next to the fireplace. That feeling of being at home is very important at Hotel V. Also on this new location on the Nesplein. There’s a cozy corner with chesterfields in the restaurant (also around a fireplace) and some rooms have comfy chairs you want to have at home immediately. Do you recognize that feeling? That you’re in a hotel room and think: ‘this Read more…

Thank you for all your enthusiastic comments! It made my realize how many fashion talents we’ve got in the Netherlands because almost every answer is another fashion designer. Cool!

There’s only one winner and on this special day (it’s my 31st Birthday) I can make someone very happy! She’s is gonna sleep in one of the beautiful designed rooms of Hotel the Exchange. It’s gonna be a hard task to choose which one, but maybe she has a favorite already? Read more…

WIN A STAY AT HOTEL THE EXCHANGE AMSTERDAM

March 18th, 2013

hoteltheexchangeamsterdam

Hotel the Exchange in Amsterdam opened its doors in December 2011 and asked 8 students and alumni of Amsterdam Fashion Academy to design the rooms. From Malu Gehner who designed the room pictured above till Sofie Sleumer who made it possible to actually sleep underneath someone’s skirt. The good thing about a hotel with so many (61) different rooms is that you can visit again, and again, and again and will never be bored.

Another cool thing about Hotel the Exchange is that designer-duo Ina-Matt was responsible for the interior design of Hotel the Exchange. They helped the fashion students, but also designed the restaurant (Stock) and the shop (OPTIONS!). You should really buy their ‘don’t let the bedbugs bite’ pillow (for sale at OPTIONS!). If you are wondering who the owners are: Otto Nan and Suzanne Oxenaar who also initiated Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy and Llove Hotel in Tokyo (a temporarily project a few years ago).

Together with Hotel the Exchange we’re running a competition. One of the readers here on Petite Passport is gonna stay in one of their beautiful rooms. Imagine Read more…
