TRIED & TESTED: KOFFIE & IK UTRECHT

May 23rd, 2013

koffie&ikutrecht

Most striking feature:

The Scandinavian decor will definitely caught your eye. Koffie & Ik is open for 8 months right now and isn’t exactly located in the center of Utrecht. Lombok is a neighbourhood where all kind of cultures live together but, so the owner told me, these days a lot of young professionals are moving there. And they need a place to drink their good coffee right? The simplistic decor with old school chairs and tables and new style Muuto lamps above the counter really stands out. When I visited Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: STAN & CO UTRECHT

May 22nd, 2013

stan&coutrecht

Most striking feature:

I’m not the one who needs to tell you something about fashion, but I like seeing people working in hotels or restaurants with uniforms that are quite cool. At the Story Hotel in Stockholm there was a girl wearing a fabulous jacket, it’s a shame the sleeves the staff wears at Bilder & de Clercq in Amsterdam aren’t for sale (yet) and at Stan & Co they wear suspenders, a cool jeans and masculine boots. It looks good! But it’s the interior that really stands out. Let me first Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: UBUNTU BEACH ZANDVOORT

May 7th, 2013

ubuntubeachzandvoort

Most striking feature:

A swing on the beach. Meant for children ofcourse, but as an adult it’s also nice to bring back some childhood memories and have a beautiful view of the sea at the same moment. Ubuntu is a new beachclub in Zandvoort (open for 6 weeks now) and the idea of two young entrepreneurs. They worked at several beachclubs in the past and thought: let’s

TRIED & TESTED: KHOTINSKY DORDRECHT

April 24th, 2013

khotinskydordrecht

Most striking feature:

In the new Energiehuis in Dordrecht – a place where you can listen to music performances or see a play at their theatre – you’ll also find a restaurant called Khotinksy. Khotinsky is a Russian scientist who brought the light bulb to the Netherlands. Ofcourse they have one eyecatching light on the huge ceiling: Bert-Jan Pot’s Downstairs lamp (included in the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum design collection as well). The owner of Khotinsky told me that Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: MARIAPAVILJOEN DEN BOSCH

April 22nd, 2013

mariapaviljoendenbosch

Most striking feature:

Mariapaviljoen is a newly opened (April 11th) restaurant in a former hospital. When you go here for dinner you have to fill out a form (het intake formulier) so they can ‘treat’ you well and you walk out alive and kicking. And when that doesn’t happen; they have Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: STILLEBEN COPENHAGEN

April 20th, 2013

stillebencopenhagen

Most striking feature:

Interior shop close to the busy Stroget (the street where you will found all the big fashion chains). Stilleben is a shop where you can find little gifts like the mugs of Playtype or a beautiful iPad sleeve, but also huge prints to hang on your wall, lamps or the Adned Mirror. Entering this shop and Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: HAN KJØBENHAVN COPENHAGEN

April 19th, 2013

hankjobenhavncopenhagen

Most striking feature:

A few weeks ago Han Kjøbenhavn opened their first store in New York. But it all started in the center of Copenhagen in 2008 where two Danish guys were selling beautiful sun glasses. It got so popular that they opened their flagshipstore in 2012 and they not only sell sunglasses in it, but also clothes, shoes and bags. This small and very stylish Danish empire is a place where guys must go nuts. The store feels almost like a museum: the pieces of Han Kjøbenhavn are presented as it were pieces of art. I’ve spotted a mask Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: PLAYTYPE COPENHAGEN

April 19th, 2013

playtypecopenhagen

Most striking feature:

Playtype is a graphic design company in Copenhagen where they ‘spend hours on the correct curvature of a C or the appropriate amount of space around an A’ (quote on their website from font designer Jonas Hecksher). Typography is their thing and on their website you can even download the most beautiful fonts. And then, a few years ago, they opened a pop up store in Vesterbro to showcase their work. Fonts on Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: LIDKOEB COPENHAGEN

April 18th, 2013

lidkoebcopenhagen1

Most striking feature:

Their cocktails. Or the bartenders? You will definitely enjoy the style of the guys who work here. Suspenders, a cool hat and tattoos on their arms: you’ll get the picture. Lidkoeb is a bit hidden – close to the cool Vaernedamsvej, but you have to enter a small alley which brings you to the bar. When we Read more…

TRIED & TESTED: DORA COPENHAGEN

April 18th, 2013

Most striking feature:

Dora was already the perfect address to buy yourself some beautiful interior gifts – or to go there for inspiration. A few weeks ago they moved a couple of doors down the road. This street is full of nice addresses (for example Playtype next door) so Read more…
