Utrecht is a beautiful city. Someone once told me I had to look at all those beautiful buildings from the Middle Ages as if I were a tourist (I lived in Utrecht while studying journalism) and since then I do that all the time. Utrecht never disappoints. This time I went to Utrecht to check out the new hotel from the same owners as the Mother Goose Hotel located in the former eye hospital by famous doctor F.C Donders – hence the name Eye Hotel. The theme of the hotel is, of course, eyes. Everywhere in the hotel you’ll see something that has to do with eyes. From vintage glasses underneath glass on the counter by checking in to quotes like ‘I love what your eyes say about your soul’ on plates in the breakfast room. And from the room numbers in braille to photos of the staff on the wall wearing glasses. There are several room types. There’s a Medium room with a view to the street of Utrecht with large windows and ceilings, but there’s also a Medium room with a small and quiet terrace. The smallest rooms are very cozy and located on the top floor directly underneath the beams. The biggest room, and booked by couples quite often, is a suite with a bath. And then there’s a Family Room, perfect if you’re planning a trip to Utrecht with your children. The location is superb. Almost next to SLA, Coffee & Village Music and Klijs & Boon.
