Today I like to take you with me to Stumptown Coffee in Los Angeles. Stumptown is one of the most popular independent coffee roastery’s in the world. Founder Duane Sorenson started the company in 1999 in Portland. When I was in Portland to make a report for Marie Claire I’ve visited their cafe (but unfortunately I wasn’t taking pictures during that time – Instagram didn’t even exist), tried some of the coffees and they told me the story of the brand. Sorenson visits every farm where they buy the beans and even had paid the highest amount ever for it (they once paid 47 dollar per pound, while the average is 2 dollar). Stumptown then opened cafes in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and more recently in New Orleans. And they even had a pop up in Amsterdam in 2010. Service is superb, coffee even better and the atmosphere breaths hipster: men with beards, women with tattoos, all dressed very cool. And they work together with the Ace Hotel in Portland, New York and New Orleans. For now: let’s take a look at my favorite Stumptown Cafe in Downtown LA.
