Unfortunately this spot has now closed its doors. But they’ve opened a new b&b, see my report here.

It’s already a joy to drive in Knokke. Everywhere you look you’ll see beautiful white houses, you’ll feel the summer-seaside-town atmosphere and since this is the most luxurious seaside resort in Belgium you can already count 15 Porsches during a ride of 10 minutes, plus a baby blue Bentley. Bea B&B, the bed and breakfast of the most inspiring interior designer from Belgium and owner of interior design shop Items, Bea Mombaers, is located in an equally posh residential area. The house has a thatched roof and the gate will only open for guests. From outside it is a beautiful villa; one step over the threshold and you’ll arrive into an architectural loft like living room. So stunning your jaw will automatically drop: everything is inspiring. When Bea later asked me if everything was tidy when I took the pictures, I thought she already made the place as stylish it could be for the photos. Not so. It’s always picture perfect in here.

Art & Design
There is a large spacious kitchen where it’s a coming and going of people. Guests, relatives and friends from the neighborhood. Gezellig. I can only imagine celebrating Christmas in this house, opening presents on the beautiful rugs made of sheepskin, cooking in that spacious kitchen. The most striking thing is the mix of vintage design, such as the Wassily chairs by Marcel Breuer, and her own designs, such as the extremely comfortable sofa. Art also plays a major role in the house. My eye fell on a work by Gabriel Roca from Tenerife, although the work of the Brussels artist Luc van der Velde, which almost seems to disappear in the concrete wall, is also very pretty. Purchased at the gallery of Stephane Simoens, also a must visit in Knokke.

There are three rooms in the bed and breakfast – each with its own atmosphere. One, the Master Bedroom, has a romantic bath in the middle of the room and a lovely wicker chair on the terrace. The other, the Mezzanine, is so big that you can sleep with four people in here. And the room downstairs has a private terrace with two salmon pink chairs I love. People not only stay at this bed and breakfast to just have a place to stay, but they like to be inspired as well. It is very quiet and the trees outside looks like as if they come into the room, so you’ll definitely feel like you’ve escaped your busy city life in here. Additional pluses: lovely soft pillows and duvets (you were totally right Mara!), shampoos of LA:Bruket which made my hair feel soft all day and in the morning a delicious organic breakfast including Belgian chocolate spread. Conclusion: I loved my stay and I’m sure you would too. Go here for a romantic break or if you want to be inspired by design and the sea!
