In a former Ford garage, Garage Pompen & Verlouw, a restaurant with a view of a nature park Het Bossche Broek in Den Bosch opened its doors.

Ford dealer and garage

Garage Pompen & Verlouw refers to the name that the building already had in the 1930s when it was a Ford dealer and garage. The immense building has been empty for years, but since the Summer a restaurant, design store Mister Design and the ceramics workshop and showroom of Cor Unum now call it their home.

Studio 34 South did the interior of both Mister Design and Garage Pompen & Verlouw. The duo whose company name refers to the 34 degrees parallel south where both of the birthplaces of owners Samantha Ellinson (Sydney) and Chechi Valentine (Buenos Aires) are located. Most important in the design was that the history of the building would still be visible. The large windows can be fully opened, the window that connects Garage Pompen & Verlouw with Mister Design was also used as a separation wall between the garage and the showroom in the 1930s (whose color became the starting point for the interior) and you can still see a piece of the pit running through the restaurant.

Inspiration from classic cars

Because the garage was founded in the 1930s, they decided to use the inspiration from cars from that era. The bar has a wooden top similar to vintage dashboards. The leather and the shape of the sofas refer to the interior of those classic cars. In the meantime, the space is filled with beautiful design pieces. Lamps of Flos, bar stools by Muuto and Thonet chairs. The showpiece is the exclusive range of chairs in the matching burgundy color by Carl Hansen & Son. Almost everything is for sale at neighbor Mister Design.

The owners of the restaurant ran De Pure Keuken in Vught before they opened Garage Pompen & Verlouw. Many pure dishes still adorn the menu. Bestseller is the pumpkin harissa hummus with grilled vegetables and feta. But also the smoked salmon with red beets and the vega buddha bowl are recommended. Although the restaurant is closed on Mondays, owner Monique is still in the kitchen to bake the tastiest cakes. The carrot cake is a favorite of locals. I tried the apple pie myself, which was also delicious.
