Good morning!

Welcome to the second edition of Monday Memo. A diary of fun things: new openings I’m excited about, exhibitions I like to go to, products I love, initiatives that caught my eye, news I want to share and much more. All related to hotspots, design and travel of course. Every two weeks 10 things, so let’s go!

Weekend getaway in Friesland

Some places are too good to just visit once, so last weekend I returned to Atelier Gaasterland in Friesland. A 95m2 design escape with a view of trees, flowers and if you’re lucky a baby deer.

Restaurant Relae goes up North

Copenhagen based restaurant Relae is going up North this Summer. Until August 15 they open a summer restaurant in Tisvilde in collaboration with Fraendekilde. Fraendekilde is a farm less than an hour drive from Copenhagen. There’s a barn-style restaurant, but they also have a glamping site decorated by Ferm Living.

Traveling without moving

Talking about glamping: Antwerp based concept store Graanmarkt 13 teamed up with Studio Corkinho to play with the idea of a staycation. They’ve created ‘Traveling without moving’ a luxury tipi tent with double bed decorated with all things Graanmarkt 13 and Studio Corkinho such as custom made cork flooring and glassware. They will place the tipi in your own garden. And if you wish you can also add an a la carte menu or a private yoga class to your staycation. Find more on the site of Graanmarkt 13.

Pop-up restaurant at Villa Augustus

Villa Augustus in Dordrecht turned their greenhouse Limonaia into a pop up restaurant for Summer. Open for lunch and dinner. Find more information on the site of Villa Augustus.

Crisis Koken

Dutch food journalist Mara Grimm asked the best Dutch chefs for their favorite crisis recipes and turned it into a COVID-19 proof book called Crisis Koken. She made it with a small budget: her partner took the pictures on carton boxes and old newspapers, she wrote all the articles and in five minutes she drew the cover. From every sold copy 2,5 euros went to the Voedselbank. And when the book was launched three weeks ago she already gathered 15.000 euros to help people in need of food.

Dream escape

If you have a visit to Amangiri on your list (just like me) there’s a new reason to go. Aman just opened Camp Sarika, a luxury camp in the wilderness of Utah. It’s only a 30-minute hike from Amangiri, or a 5-minute car ride.

Exhibition in Knokke

If you’re planning a weekend in Knokke this Summer don’t miss a visit to the Dr De Beir Huis. Brussels based gallery MANIERA will show all furniture from its collection. This ranges from the earliest designs of OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen until the latest collection of Bernard Dubois and Isaac Reina. Until August 30.

Maarten Spruyt and Levi van Veluw in Het Hem

Het Hem in Zaandam is open for a year and they now show the exhibition CHAPTER 3HREE: Maarten Spruyt. The art director takes you into the former shooting ranges in the basement of this former ammunition factory and shows the work of 27 artists. Levi van Veluw created a new installation Sanctum. Until August 2.

Artist talk

Last Summer I bought the book ‘Kunstmeisjes’, a book written by three female art connoisseurs who show you their 50 favorite art works in Dutch museums. One of the Kunstmeisjes is Monique Rodriguez and she makes amazing art herself as well. Love the bright colors and the graphic effect. On my wish list!

Summer in The Netherlands

Isn’t there a better thing than to close your laptop after a long day behind the computer and driving to the beach for an al fresco dinner and a walk on the beach? One of my favorite beach clubs is Tulum in Noordwijk. Find more addresses in The Netherlands Guide.

That’s it! Hope you’ll have a wonderful new week with lots of inspiration. x Pauline
