Susan Bijl’s second store in Rotterdam has opened the doors unofficially. You can now also buy her bags in Kralingen – and while you’re there you can also shop for design items by Muller Van Severen and Maarten Baas.

Bags made from recycled fishing nets

Twenty years ago, long before the focus on sustainability was as high on the agenda as it is today, Susan Bijl created the New Shopping Bag. A bag that replaces the plastic shopping bag and that is made of ripstop nylon extracted from recycled fishing nets. Every year she makes a new collection in a striking color combination. In the last couple of years their collection grew with pouches, bum bags and backpacks. And she also worked together with designer Bertjan Pot for HAY – instead of two colors, these bags have six different colors to make it even more eye-catching.

In De Achtertuin

Susan Bijl’s first store opened on the Mauritsweg six years ago and now they’ve opened a new store (plus office and warehouse) on the Oostzeedijk in Kralingen. De Achtertuin used to be an old sailmaker, but now they turned the building into a place for creative companies. As this store is much bigger Susan Bijl decided to also sell interior items from beloved designers such as Muller Van Severen and Maarten Baas. The official opening is in September, but they are already open on their new location.
