Morgan & Mees is already a successful hotel and restaurant in Amsterdam, and in 2023 they opened the doors of their second location of in Rotterdam. At an iconic location, as many Rotterdammers still remember that the building with the striking blue windows used to be Schoevers, where they trained secretaries, and after that it was the head office of local radio station Radio Rijnmond for many years.
Designer Anne Claus, known for De Republiek in Bloemendaal, among others, gave the hotel a makeover and this resulted in various rooms (the one pictured is the Extra Comfy One) that emphasize comfort, art and striped patterns. Art also plays an important role in the bar and restaurant on the ground floor. I especially love the work of San Ming The Stylemeister and the tapestry by Adam Plogue.
The hotel has many cozy corners, so you’ll not only find hotel guests here, but also locals who come in for a drink or read the weekend newspapers and their magazines on Saturday morning with a good cup of coffee. The restaurant has several delicious dishes on the menu: from oysters to a scallop crudo as a starter, to a tender steak and a seasonal dessert with mandarin oranges to finish.
And the surroundings are fantastic, especially for art lovers, because within five minutes you’ll reach Depot Boijmans. Book a tour so you can learn and see more about the world’s first museum depot that is open to the public. Have lunch (or dinner) at Restaurant Renilde on the top floor with a beautiful view over the city. The roof terrace can also be visited for free from Wednesday to Saturday from 6pm, and is highly recommended if you want to see the skyline of the city during a beautiful sunset.
