Design Stays
Europe’s Most Inspiring Hotels and Guesthouses
Handpicked by Petite Passport
From a colourful hotel in Ibiza to a yoga haven in Paris, from a bustling design hotel in the Danish capital to an art-nouveau-style retreat in the Dolomites in Italy or a classy resort in the Greek island of Samos: for Design Stays I’ve carefully and single-handedly selected 45 design hotels and guesthouses in Europe. The result is this mouthwatering coffee-table book for everyone who loves design and travel.
I’ve been travelling all over Europe since 2010, when I’ve launched my online travel magazine Petite Passport, looking for the most inspiring and wonderfully designed places to eat, shop and stay. During my visits to the hotels I’ve immersed myself in the beautiful décor and unique environment and guesthouses, taking photographs and listening to the stories of the architects, the owners, and the staff.
This book is a compilation of 14 years of travel, and it’s my way of sharing all of my favourite hotels with you, people who love design and travel just as much as I do. If you know the feeling of your heart skipping a beat in anticipation when you walk up to a new hotel room, key card in hand: Design Stays is the book for you.
All photos and texts were taken and written by me myself, and are bursting with inspiration for design lovers with vacation bucket lists. The design has been done by Foreign Policy Design.
Maybe you’ll want to plan a city trip to Berlin to stay in a former women’s prison that’s converted into a hotel?
Or you can’t wait to find out how to design and furnish a ski chalet in Switzerland without veering into clichés?
Or discover what happens when a woman who worked in finance in Paris decides she is ready for a new challenge and teams up with the locals in Lagos to open one of the nicest hotels in Portugal?
In Design Stays, I present 45 inspiring places to stay like these, all of them in Europe, in cities or in the countryside. They include high-end once-in-a-lifetime hotels (Pa.te.os near Lisbon, for example) but also more affordable stays that are equally unique, such as the Warszauer in Krakow. Room prices start at under 200 euros in 20 of the 45 hotels.
For this book, I’ve collaborated with Luster Publishing, and they will ensure the book will be available in the finest bookstores across Europe, the United States and Asia.
Especially for Petite Passport readers, I’ve made a limited edition offer. The first 100 people who order the book and use the code ‘petitepassport’ in the webshop, not only receive a signed copy of the book, but also a surprise guide to Antwerp or Berlin – all for the same price of €39,95. Estimated delivery time: April 2024.
Can’t wait to inspire you with 256 pages of hotel inspiration! Warm wishes, Pauline
